The students of the English Study Program take this course in order to gain an in-depth understanding of the series of approaches and methods in language teaching. They are based on the historical perspectives of the ones used in current situations. In this course, the students first learn various approaches including Grammar Translation Method; Direct Method; Reading Method; Audio Lingual Method; Cognitive Learning Theories; Communicative Language Teaching; Community Language Learning; Silent Way; Suggestopedia; Natural Approach; and total Physical Response. In addition, the students also learn the methods used for teaching language skills namely: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and the numbers of language components. The study is through description and discussion as the classroom activities. By having such activities, it is hoped that the students are informed about background, principles, and usual classroom techniques of language teaching methods. Then, after the students are knowledgeable about the methods, they are trained to apply the methods in their classroom for practice. This is done through classroom simulation. Therefore, it is expected that they can better arrive at their judgments and decisions for appropriate teaching methods in language classroom of a specific context
